How does this cheap calling work?
The cheap calling what this website is about, operates through access numbers. There are multiple access number providers in the UK, that each use different calling rates. Therefore it is important to easily search for the cheapest by using the website. To find the access number you need, select the country you wish to telephone, select the destination method (landline or mobile) and click on "Search". A list of access numbers and rates appears.
Be careful to check the call rates and comments (denoted with asterisks) carefully. The rate and number to call may be different on weekdays and weekends (Saturday or Sunday). When you have found the correct access number, dial it. After a vocal confirmation of the rate you can enter the international phone number of the country you wish to dial.
What does it cost exactly?
If you make a 5 minute call and cost is shown as 10p per minute, the charge will be 50p (5x10p). Note that the charge for making a call to a mobile telephone is different from the charge for a call to another landline.
Your service provider also usually charges a minimum charge or connection fee for each call; for example BT applies a 5p minimum charge. NTL charges a 5p connection fee and Telewest a 6p connection fee for 08 numbers and 10p for 09 numbers. For other networks please contact your service provider.
How are my calls billed?
The charges for calls to our access numbers will simply appear on your normal phone bill from your telephone provider (usually BT, Telewest or NTL).
Do I need to register, open an account or buy a card first?
No, calling through normal access numbers is free to all and therefore makes it very convenient to call this way.
Can I ring from my mobile?
Yes, you can. However be aware that you may be surcharged by your mobile operator. How much you will be charged depends on your mobile operator and which tariff plan you have. Please note your mobile operator controls this rate on their billing system. We advise you to get in touch with your mobile phone provider to double check their rates to the access numbers that are mentioned on this website.
Does Telecompare receive commission for putting a specific provider at the top of the list?
Telecompare is independent and does not receive commission from anybody. The mentioned rates are collected automatically from the websites of the providers. When a provider is at the top of the list, it simply means that it provides the cheapest rate.
